    Hi,

We are trying to receive data from an oes scoreboard into Xpression. I have added the GPI card in the hardware setup, and when I add the datalinq server it says it is connected , but when I browse I do not receive any data.

I know in an old thread there was a setup guide for doing this, I would appreciate if that file was reuploaded.

    Thanks.

I assume your OES scoreboard is sending data serially? How have you connected the scoreboard to XPression?

You can download the serial scorebaord setup file here:

    Thanks,

I actually got tech support on the phone and they were able to point out the issue. I had to disable the Windows serial mouse. The setup file is still immensely helpful to have, so thank you for the fast reply.

    garner,

Thank you, but when I try to download the zip file it said:

"Server Error during file download. You may retry the download. Please contact support if this error persists"

and when I try to download the pdf file it will not let me login. Do I need to setup another login for the download?

    Thanks

    Garner,

We have datalinq on or Xpression, but I don't see how to select the scoreboard. We are connecting to a Daktronics scoreboard.

    thanks

    Hi John,

You can select the type of scoreboard you want to add to Datalinq in the Datalinq Server.

    Add New > Daktronics

Make sure to closely follow the guide I emailed you to setup the serial connection.

Reading the instructions, does it need to be a USB-serial cable? We have a RS232 serial to serial cable. Will that work?

    We are using Xpression Designer

An RS232 serial port of any type will work. Doesn't matter if its a USB-Serial or using the onboard serial port.
As long as your Datalinq source is connecting to the COM Port that the cable from the scoreboad is connected to.

We are using a PC to run Xpression Designer.

I am not seeing the same graphic card (we have a NVIDIA Quadro K600)
Under Device Manager>Ports, I have: Communications Port (COM1) and Intel(R) Active Management Technology - SOL (COM3). There is no USB Serial Port (COM3) listed.

I changed the registry entry for the serial mouse.

Once I set up the Datalinq according to the rest of the instructions, the value fields are empty.

That isn't Ross supplied hardware, so it's not going to match the guide I sent you. Does the PC you are running XPression Designer on have an RS232 serial port? If not, you will need to purchase a USB-Serial cable. If it does, you'll have to figure out from the device manager which COM# is the RS232 port on your PC.

Whatever COM Port # that your RS232 port is (and has the cable connected to the serial data source) is the COM Port you will connect Datalinq to.

What device are you getting serial data from? A scoreboard?

Its from the OES distro box which is connected to the OES controller.

Ok. Does your PC have a RS232 port or a USB-Serial cable?

The documentation for the computer just says serial port

It's probably RS232. Try hooking your data feed up to it and setting your Datalinq Server to connect to COM1.

    We tried several different configurations.
    1. RS232 cable from the OES distro box to the Xpression computer using COM 1 and COM3 - no luck
    2. RS232 cable from the OES ISC9000 box to the xpression computer using COM 1 and COM3 - no luck
    3. We tried a RS232 cable we know works (OES distro box to crossfire and tested that it works) from the OES ISC9000 box to the xpression computer using using COM1 and COM3 - no luck

Would a serial to USB adapter work? If so, what are the setting for that?

The settings would be the same. The USB-serial adapter is just a way of adding a serial port to your PC.

we would use COM1 or COM3 still?

  • 24.  RE: Xpression linking to OES scoreboard

    Posted 10-31-2016 20:32
You need to use the COM# that is assigned to the port you are using. I can't tell you which number that is without looking at your device manager and figuring out what port is assigned to whatever Com ports you have active.

You can't just assume it's going to COM1 or COM3. Your PC will assign the Com Port# to the serial port. It's COM3 on turnkey XPression systems because we set the serial port to be COM3. On newer XPression systems it's COM1, because we assign the serial port device to be COM1.

It always works better for us when we use a null modem cable/adapter in between the expression and OES score clock. Otherwise I just see blank data in the datalinq server.

Just a heads up: We use the Tissot system which I assume outputs an OES output (since we didn't have to change setup when we switched to Tissot) HOWEVER, we ran across a problem and Brian Ford helped me out. Here is the discussion and how we fixed it.
