  • 1.  Change Photoshop File layer color

    Posted 16 days ago

Hi,I am working on an election map. I imported a layered PSD with all the municipalities in separate layers. All imported OK. I want to change the color of the municipalities based on a datalinq Excel source with party names.

My question is How do I change the material colors based on the Excel datalinq source?  We need 6 party colors!! Can I do it in Visual Logic?

Hope someone can share some light on this

    Thanks!!

I can see that the PSD imports all the layers as separate tga materials:

Yes, you can do it in Visual Logic, but I'd recommend VB.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but VL is constantly running and doing all the logic trees over and over every frame would be taxing.

VB can be triggered when there is a change and run as a loop off an array.

A change you need to make is make your layers white. Then you change the Emissive color and that will get multiplied against the white. Turning black alpha images into color give weird edges.

Next is a simple VL assigning color.

You'll have to design the logic for selectors which would come in between the assignment.

    VB would be much easier..

Thanks, Azathoth!!! that did the trick!! I was trying to change the color but I had to change all images to white!! I already had a party name and color selector, it was just a matter of changing the output instead of a quad face to the Emissive color!!!

I think I will go the VL route because I don't have the VB knowledge to it that way!!

    Thanks for the help!!!

When using Xpression for layering graphics and not doing 3D, it is best to set Emissive to white and all else to black.

This way lighting and rotations do not affect the coloring of the graphics.

Then, if you change the Emissive color, it can tint textures or act as a solid color.
