Hi If I want to use my Carbonite Black Plus in 4K, how many multiviewers do I get for internal sources and external inputs please, also how many heads ?

Hi James,

Version 14 is almost out and you will have to upgrade to 14 for UHD and use 12.3 for HD/3G.

In UHD. Output 1/2 is going to be the ONLY system MV and can have up to 16 windows so it’s a copy on both. Outputs 23-24-24 will be the I/O MV and you will get Quads since each has 3 Inputs and 1 output Available to it. These come out as 1080i.

In UHD outputs 3/4/5/6 are a 2SI Output. Same for 7/8/9/10.

The other 3 Quads can be either 2SI or SQD. Plus those can have a down convert also.

Total is 9 in 5 Out UHD Plus 4 MV.

Thanks, Les, so on the system MV those 16 tiles are HD correct so for PGM /PVW I use 8, and then I effectively can have 2 more UHD sources, correct, can I also put my PGMPVW on the other MVs and use the system one all for inputs ?

Thanks

The Tiles are not UHD – The MV is a 1080P MV (sorry not i as mentioned above - in 1080p Mode the MV is 1080i). The Windows will leverage the 2SI system processing and essentially display one of the links in the MV since those display the full raster of the image. QSD Inputs are converted to 2SI on the input Card since all of the inputs have the Converters on a Black Plus frame.

Inputs – There is only 9 Inputs. If you want to use an HD input it gets converted to UHD on the input card Processing to UHD 2SI. So NO MATTER what you run you have only 9 Inputs. They are consecutive – Input 1 is BNCs 1/2/3/4, Input 2 is BNCs 5/6/7/8, 3 is 9/10/11/12 and etc… until you get to Input 9 33/34/35/36. Inputs can be UHD 2SI, UHD SQD or HD – In HD only the first BNC of the Group is used.

Output # – OUTPUT TYPE

1 – MV1 (system MV with all inputs and Buses Available)

2 – MV1 (system MV with all inputs and Buses Available - Copy of output 1)

3/4/5/6 – UHD OUTPUT 1 Links 1-4 in 2SI ONLY!!

"‹7/8/9/10 – UHD OUTPUT 2 Links 1-4 in 2SI ONLY!!

11/12/13/14 – UHD OUTPUT 3 Links 1-4 in 2SI or QSD or HD Down Convert

15/16/17/18 – UHD OUTPUT 4 Links 1-4 in 2SI or QSD or HD Down Convert

19/20/21/22 – UHD OUTPUT 5 Links 1-4 in 2SI or QSD or HD Down Convert

23 – MV2 I/O MV (Access to Inputs 1/2/3 and OUTPUT 3)

24 – MV3 I/O MV (Access to Inputs 4/5/6 and OUTPUT 4)

25 – MV4 I/O MV (Access to Inputs 7/8/9 and OUTPUT 5)

So what ever you assign to Output 3-4-5 is what you will have on those I/O MVs.

that’s how many configurable outputs do I get from the ME? also I guess they could just be Auxs.?

In UHD there is 1 ME and 2 MiniME (though in UHD the MiniME have 2 Full Keyers and a Full Preview – so really they are Half ME 🙂 but hey MiniME is still a cool name). You can assign ME PGM, ME PV and ME CLN. Then you also have the 2 MIniME PGM and PVs. Plus you have Aux Buses and Internal sources like the 2 UHD Media Stores (they have dedicated Alpha channels but can NOT be used as 4 Video Only channels).

The Upgrade files are now up on the website – All of the manuals are with the downloads. You also get both v14 and v12.3 sets in the download so that you can bounce between the two without having to re-download.

The system is processing in 2SI - IN SQD you lose all kinds of abilities as now to move a DVE to a Quadrant you would need to move 4 tiles into a single quadrant. That is why 2SI is the preferred for everything 🙂

Now with a Black Plus inputs can be either as it will do the conversion of SQD sources into 2SI. Then you have those 3 outputs that will give you ability to send out SQD as needed.

The MVs are in 1080p there is no UHD MV. However if you use a Quad SDI to HDMI 2.0 converter you can connect the 4 heads directly to a single UHD monitor and have all 4 MVs inside of it that way.

Well it is a 1080p video so you would have to loop it back into an input and then apply the HD to UHD conversion. Also in the MV the system is only using a single link of the 2SI to display these in the MV. I don’t think your going to like the quality of it.

No I would not equate it to that. there can be some edge issues and what looks like aliasing problems. We a DVE or a Conversion there are filters applied to “squeeze” it down. This is just missing pixels that were tossed out. If I tried to give an example it would be like in the Digital SD to Analog Conversion days (I swear I entered the industry at the tail end of this :D) where you would use an 8Bit encoder for the Monitoring outputs but 10bit(or 12bit Quantizing) for “Program/Transmission” paths as the image would not look great but was very cost effective for displaying on the Monitor wall – you know back when monitor walls were made of all kinds of monitors 🙂

Correct the switch is processing in UHD – we just need to pass the video into the system and around it in Quad2SI. This has to do with maximum data rates. However the processing is put back into the full UHD raster.
