Third party remote control

  • 1.  Third party remote control

    Hello,
I'd like to control the device from a crestron system.

In the user guide at page 56 I find a list of 6 supported protocols.
I guess to control the basic functions like setting crosspoints for video and audio, the Probel SW-P-08 seems to be the prefered protocol?

On page 198 there is a list of supported commands.
Can somebody advice me where to find a full documentation of this control-set? - I'm looking for a specification for the syntax and some description of these commands.

    Thanks a lot
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

We do not post the entire protocol online, only the command set that Ultrix Supports.

I have PM'd you to see If we can assist in getting the functionality you need in this project.

    Hello Chris,

    thanks for the fast response.
Sorry, but I didn't ask in my post for the whole control-set. (For what should I need it, if it's not implemented in the device?)

What I asked for is the syntax and maybe a more detailled explanation of the protocol.
If you don't like to post the syntax, maybe an example of just one command and the response would be helpful...

Thanks for your offer to support us.
At the moment the project didn't start yet.
We are still looking for a decision what crosspoint device we're going to buy.
I will get back to you if we need more detailled information.

    Thanks, Reagrds
    Martin

    Hello Chris, hello all,

can someone please tell me, how to readout the audio-level of the inputs and the outputs?
I am talking about the RMS- or Peak-levels of the program, not the volume-faders.
What command do I have to send, to receive a value that I can show at a bar graph?

I'm sorry, I can not find it in the manual.
    Thanks a lot
    Martin

    Hello Chris,
coming back to your offer for support:
I implemented the Probel SW-P-08 command "02" for setting crosspoints in the Ultrix.
(As I found out, it controls the destinations and sources by its IDs.)
That works for me so far, but I don't find a way to clear a crosspoint-connection. - How does this work?

    Thanks a lot,
    regards
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

So Ultrix doesn't clear crosspoints, you have to switch to another source that has a valid ID in the Source Table. If you are looking to 'disconnect' this output, you can create a source ID that points to the Port labelled slot0.disconnect.sdi, which is an internal 'disconnect' crosspoint.

If I may ask, what exactly were the Probel commands you were sending to it?  I'm looking at doing something similar and have had no luck with the protocol.  The examples I've found haven't helped me too much.  I want to send crosspoint commands to change routing with an external control system.

On same external control system topic, are there more RossTalk commands for Ultrix, other than the GPI Salvo trigger and Timers ?

Here are some probel commands you can try.

    Port 8910

    all commands are in HEX

    Source 1 to destination 1

    10 02 02 00 00 00 00 05 F9 10 03

    Source 2 to destination 1

    10 02 02 00 00 00 01 05 F8 10 03

    Source 17 to destination 10

    10 02 02 00 00 09 10 10 05 E0 10 03

At this time it is only salvos and timer triggers.  The documentation is in the user guide under ‘external Control’ page 231 and up

    https://documentation.rossvideo.com/files/Manuals/Routers/Ultrix/Ultrix%20User%20Guide%20(2101DR-004).pdf

If you need further router control you can use GVG or Probel protocols.

    Hi Jacob,

yes, it was not so easy to reverse-engineer this protocol. - As you see, unfortunately the Ultrix-support is denying any information regarding the syntax. - I'm actually not sure if they even know this word...

Where I found mutch better help was from "sam - Snell Advanced Media". - If you look for them in relation with "probel" you will find a very good manual.
Be aware, that the manual starts with the protocol SW-P-02, what you will not need. - What you need is the SW-P-08, starting at page 16.

The very short summery of the syntax is as follows:

    Message: 10 02 DATA BTC CHK 10 03
    Data: Command (02) Matrix+Level (00) Multiplier (00) Destination-1 Source-1
    BTC: Byte-Count of Data
CHK: not (Data + BTC) +1

    And now the freaky part:
If you need the value of x10 (ASCII for Linefeed), either in Data, BTC or CHK, you have to substitute the value with a double-byte: x10x10....

    I hope this helps,
    regards
    Martin

Probel SW-08 is a Snell protocol.  The documentation for that protocol is available here

    https://www.grassvalley.com/docs/Manuals/sam/Protocols%20and%20MIBs/Router%20Control%20Protocols%20SW-P-88%20Issue%204b.pdf

Here are some probel commands you can try.

Use Port 8910 for communication, all commands are in HEX

    Source 1 to destination 1

    10 02 02 00 00 00 00 05 F9 10 03

    Source 2 to destination 1

    10 02 02 00 00 00 01 05 F8 10 03

    Source 17 to destination 10

    10 02 02 00 00 09 10 10 05 E0 10 03

Thanks for getting back!  I will give these a try and investigate the protocol.
