  • 1.  How do you manage audio with MADI?

    Posted 04-18-2020 00:51

We have a lot of sources that use 2 channels of audio, most use 8 channels but we do have a couple that use 16. I'm thinking of splitting our MADI port into 8 channel groups destinations but can't really think about how that would work for sources/destinations that need all 16 channels of audio.

For example, I have 64 madi channels split into 8 destinations with 8 channels of audio on each destination (lets call channels 1-8 "AUDIO 1" and channels 9-16 "AUDIO 2". I have a SDI source with 16 channels of audio where I need to get all 16 channels into the MADI destinations.

    How would I send channels 1 - 8 on AUDIO 1 and channels 9 - 16 on AUDIO 2?

    Hi Ryan,

You can't add multiple audio channels to the same level however you can perform multi level routes with the Ultrix

For example you can create a source or destination called MADI 1 and assign the audio channels to the levels that you need. If we say that source MADI 1 is audio channels 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 you add all of the channels to the same source definition.

that way any time to select this source you take all audio channels.

You can create as many source with different iterations as you need. You can even re-use the MADI inputs as much as you want.

You can also do the same with audio destinations however once an output has been defined it cannot be reused.

    Hope this helps!
