I sent this message to tech support. Haven't heard back quite yet. I figured I'd drop it here as well, just in case somebody can give me more ideas on stuff to check......

A week ago we started having awful crashing problems with our sports project. Here's what I know.
-It only crashes in layout mode
-It can crash on any scene
-Datalinq was completely disabled and it still crashes
-All scripts were deleted and it still crashes
-The crashing occurs on multiple Xpression machines.
-The crashing can occur performing any action in layout mode but can be easily emulated by scaling in the transform window and/or toggling the visibility of layers. I used those actions to recreate the problem about a hundred times today. Sometimes it will crash immediately. Sometimes it takes some scaling and some toggling the visibility but it will crash within 3 minutes while performing an action.
After trying a several things within the sports project I imported just one scene out of the sports project and into a new project. The crashing continued. Here's where it gets weird.
-I deleted all materials from the project, but kept the quads, and it freezes
-I deleted all text objects from the project, but kept the materials/quads, and it freezes
-I deleted all text objects and materials from the project, but kept the quads, it crashes
-I deleted all the quads, but kept the text objects, and it still crashed
BUT
-I deleted all materials (kept the quads) and deleted all text objects and I have not been able to make it crash
-I cannot get Xpressions to crash in our News Broadcast project
-I cannot get Xpressions to crash in new project by adding a bunch of blank quads and text layers.
The only solution that I can think of at this point is to rebuild the entire project.
