Video Cache

    Hey all,

I had to make a video asset in After Effects and bring it into XPression, however the processor is %140+ when I take the scene online using the video file. Is there a way better handle video files in XPression? The video only has 15 frames but the processor is still way too high to be viable for our studio machines. Can anyone advise?

    Thanks,
    Hunter

Is it AVI XPression codec? If so, did you change the quality settings of the XPression codec? Changing the quality higher than 80% (the default) will add very little disceranble differece to the video, but decrease performance exponentially.

What is the bit rate of the file you are having issues with? Files above about 100Mpbs will start to act strangely. 90% of XPression videos are 30-50Mbps and look crisp and perfect.

It is an AVI XPression codec video rendering out of After Effects. I'm not sure what the bit rate is.

Did you change the quality of the XPN codec?
I bet the bitrate is really high.

You can use a free tool like "MediaInfo" to verify the bitrate and the codec.

I did change the quality of the codec in After Effects to 4:2:2, and the quality set to 80. However there is no change in the video cache. Still topping out around %140 CPU utilization.

Can you upload the clip for us to see?

I can. Would it be a problem to send the brick FTP link again?

Never mind I have found the BrickFTP. Will send the clips denoted in this format for easy retrieval: "br_FILENAME.avi" Thanks @bford @garner

@bford @garner The videos have been uploaded. Can send the Project Package as well if you can't find any issue with the video files. Thanks!

I assume just the Bracket clip is showing issues? The Dot grid clip seems fine.
Is the Bracket clip intentionally 1920x2905?

It is, the regional bracket has to be at that resolution and I really like the trim paths animation. I do think it may have something to do with the blur effect I have on the basketball court because now that I have it off, the processor utilization is down to no more than 15% :D

That makes sense. I was wondering why the clip didn't actually seem to be giving me any issues.
Blur is going to be more more resource intensive the bigger the dimension of the objects it's applied to.
