  • 1.  Import XML to sequencer

    Hi All,

I am trying to find documentation on how to import XML scenes into the sequence list after it is updated. I found some people on the forum addressing that this can be done, but I don't see anything that explains how to do it. I would need a watch folder on the Xpression PC that imports when the XML file is saved. Is that the best way to do this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Mike

You can set up a watch folder in the XPression Preferences which will automatically import the new playlist into the sequencer when the XML file is updated. In the Preferences there are some options to control the behaviour of the XML file import from the watch folder.

You don't need a watch folder, you can just right click in the sequencer and choose `Take Item List -> Import From -> XML`. The format for the XML needs to match the format you get when you do `Take Item List -> Export To` and export as XML.

That action of right clicking and importing is what I am looking to do automatically. If our program creates the XML and saves it to a watch folder, it will import the scenes.

    That is the idea anyway.

Yes you can do that too. XPression can watch the watchfolder for xml files to be created and it parses the commands out of each and can then delete the xml file once it has been parsed. Each XML file can include one or more take items to create in the sequencer. The XML can be used to create sequence groups as well..

Here is an example XML file that you can try placing in the watchfolder.. You'll need to make sure you have a scene that matches what the XML file is trying to create: https://ross.brickftp.com/f/cf9751d15
