  • 1.  GUI for Blue Box?

We were wondering if a GUI for the Blue Box is in the works yet? We would like to get the ability to actually control what the Blue Box does rather than using the Vision switcher to activate those 2 channels.

What would it take to be able to control channels 3+4 from the Xpressions Studio sequencer directly or is that even a possibility at this time?

The XPression Bluebox software is a 'headless' version of the XPression engine, with no GUI. As a headless engine it is priced lower than other editions of XPression software. If you need access to XPression Layout/Sequencer (like in the Studio or Designer editions) you will need to upgrade your BlueBox software to Studio.

If you are using MOS workflow - you could also control the BlueBox channels with XPression Remote Sequencer. XPression Remote Sequencer will play back MOS items (only) in an XPression BlueBox engine.

Please let us know if you have more questions about BlueBox!

You could also look at the free Dashboard application which allows custom frontend panels to be designed, which can send RossTalk commands to the bluebox. Since bluebox does not have a sequencer, the RossTalk interface is not as fully featured as what you could do with the Studio application, but you may find some value in being able to put items to air and clear them using custom dashboard panels. There are some tutorials on the Ross Website that explain some of the uses of Dashboard.

Our MOS workflow shows access to channels A,B,C,D when assigning a channel in ENPS. If we try to play that item in C or D through the remote sequence it will not load. The item has a red name in the scene and all text is italicized. Remote Sequencer shows the lower third graphic as being ready in the Channel C/D preview window.

Right now this is our setup for channels:

    Studio Channels:

Channel A for lower thirds and fullscreens.

Channel B is used for OTS/Monitor Graphics

    Blue Box Channels

Channel C runs our time and temp bug being called by the switcher using the standard CC Load to C setup. Channel D runs our opens and wipes also through the switcher.

We were looking into freeing up channel C to use for more things like feeding auxiliary set monitors or motion backgrounds. This would need to be controlled through the MOS system so that the news department can put them in their rundowns.

I just started looking at the DashBoard and Ross Talk videos.

The remote sequencer can be used to playback MOS items on channels C/D. If the items are staying red, then it is likely that the project is not being loaded or deployed to the bluebox. This would be either a workflow problem, or a configuration problem. It all depends on whether or not you also have a project server, etc.. If you don't have project server you need to manually load the correct project. I would suggest you contact Tech Support and have them work with you to resolve this issue.

We load our MOS items into Studio using the Remote Sequencer "Rundown Selection" option. These MOS Items then appear as a group in the Studio Box sequence but they never go to the Blue Box. Are they supposed to do that automatically?
