Hello,

I just upgraded to a new machine that I will use Xpression Designer, and I am not able to see the thumbnails for the materials. It will only show a black square.

My previous machine did not show thumbnails either, that would either show some garbled mess or just black. I have set the Hardware Renderer to the graphics card, but that does not help. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing?

Is this on a Windows Machine? A Virtual Machine? An Apple machine on Bootcamp?

Good point. Some detail: This is Windows. Its a Dell M3800, i7. It is Windows 8, not sure if that matters, I have read others are using it.

It has an NVIDIA Quadro K1100 Graphics card. In Xpression under Preferences, I go to Hardware Renderer, I don't see that adapter as a choice, only Intel HD Graphics 4600. Could that be a factor?

Very strange, I understand the software requires Windows 7, but we have had it operational, however poorly operation on a Windows 8 machine that we no longer use. That seems like a very solid machine being the professional level laptop Dell offers. Have you navigated to Edit > Hardware Setup? There I believe you have more control over where your outputs go. Are you trying to virtually output or output to a technical board?

Hi Mike,

The material thumbnails will not work unless the NVIDIA board is the active renderer. You will need to look for a setting in the control panel (maybe in the nvidia control panel if there is one) to force it to always use the NVIDIA board. I have seen this issue on other laptops before where the default to using the onboard lower power Intel GPU unless you force them to use the faster NVIDIA gpu.

Yeah, this was a setting to do with the computer not using the NVidia as the default graphics renderer for the program. To fix, I right clicked on the desktop. Go to the NVidia control panel and make the default processor for Xpression.
