Anyone using the offline xPression Designer on a laptop? Would like to start using my offline Designer but had trouble with it working on my current Lenovo workstation laptop. Does the graphics card have to be an nVidia GeForce GTX680M in order to render properly? About the only laptop I can find with that card is Alienware.

    Hi Michael,

As far as I know almost any laptop can be used with the Designer software.

I have had issues with it in the past when I was getting the error-message: " Error initializing 3D subsystem (Failure: D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE)" but once I went into the Preferences (EDIT > PREFERENCES) and changed the Hardware Renderer to the graphics card of the laptop, the problem was solved.

Note that graphics might not run as smoothly as they are supposed to but that's due to the limitations of your graphics card. If you try it on a real Xpressionmachine they will run smoothly.

    Good luck!

It does not have to be a GTX 680m it just has to be a fairly current nvidia Geforce/Quadro chip.

At Ross many of the product specialists including myself use Macbook Pro laptops running windows in Bootcamp. I am on my second one the first was a 330m now I have a 650m and both ran great.

I would avoid AMD chips as they can cause some issues and are not officially supported. Also make sure the power management options are set to high performance. Many laptops switch between the dedicated graphics chip and a low power integrated chip when on battery power, you will want to force the laptop to always use the dedicated chip. Your battery won't last long and the laptop will produce more heat but XPression will be happy.
