I want to build an animation that has a slate at the front, hits a pause even, then upon resume, plays out the animation and takes itself offline when done. The pause event is at frame 1 in the scene director, and jumps to frame 10 (arbitrary numbers) where the animation controller starts. The animation controller has the slate's opacity set at 100, then 0 in the next frame (frame 11 in our reference), while the animation begins at frame 11. Easy.

Here's the tricky part: all of the directors and switcher operators keep their key channels open (or sometimes bring it on-air just before the animation begins) and rely on the CG operator to resume. I have gotten instructions to create that slate at the top, but when I do, it shows up on-air since the key channel on our Vision is live. The preview they are looking at in the control room is the video output of XPression on our multi-viewer. We have both video and alpha channels being sent for all four of our CG channels.

Is there any way to create a different alpha mask for the text object being used as a slate, so that it's visible in the video output, but will be cut out by the alpha mask at the switcher? That allows us to create the slate on the video channel that the operator can see, but still allow the directors to leave their key in without seeing the slate on air.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

Dan you can turn the alpha channels off on the objects that make up the slate. This will prevent those objects from keying.

select the object and navigate to the rendering tab. Once there look find the color channel check boxes and de-select alpha.
