    Hi There,

I'm using Xpression Studio (Build 2116) and setting up a scene with some Phoshop files including a (drop) Shadow. And the transparant parts (the shadow) are messing up....

When importing the PSD files into the Xpression Bin, and looking at the RGB images/Alpha-Channel something wierd is going on. The Alpha channel is ok, but within the RGB Image everything what used to be transparant, is white. So when using the image (and specific my drop shadow) isn't black, but white...

Why does Xpression think that my PSD background color (which is transprant) is White?

Within Xpression AVIS I can set this up right by using the shaped/unshaped option. What can I to with PSD files to get the good result?

    Hi Harm,

I've struggled with this too. I'm not really sure it's a Photoshop- or XPression issue.

I think it has to do with the default foreground color in Photoshop which is probably set to white. So even when you save a transparent psd, it remembers the white default setting.

The way I use to solve this issue is to put a black background at the moment when I create the dropshadow. Aftwerwards you can remove itm but at the time of creation I use a black background.

Another thing you can do is to create an alpha channel and then keep the background color on the layers on black. Because of the cutout formed by the alphachannel, the black background will be ignored but on the transparent parts it will keep it in mind. That always works for me.

    Cheers,

    Kenneth

No, this is not working... I've tried this and the result is the same... A white transparant background.

And even if this was working, the first workaround is not quite a I wanted. This is because I've also copy-paste Illustrator objects into PSD-files with tranparancy or change the opacity of layers. Al of these have no impact on background.

The second option is an option what works, but also not a good workaround which is use-able. In stead of copy all of the layer to flatten them all, select the visibility of that layer, creating a alpha layer of that. add a black background, I rather can export my image to png/tga/tiff. But maybe it is the only option?

I've noted the same behavior of .psd files from Photoshop in Xpression and other systems. Build your art as .psd and archive that if you need to make changes, then save as a .png in Xpression---.png is a much less bulky file and maintains all the transparencies that you see working in Photoshop.

Put a full black background in Photoshop.

make a selection of all your Layers (except the background), the easiest way to do this is use the shift+ctrl+alt and 'e' together on a new empty layer. Put the background of during this action. Now you have a new bounced layer, make a selection from the new layer ctrl + a left mouse click on the new layer.

Go to the channel tab (layers), and add a new alpha layer with the selection you just made. Put the alpha channel off and go back to the layers, put the background ON and the new (temp) layer off. Save the psd or png, open it in XPression and you will see the shadows are black as expect

    Hope this works for you!
