Publishing a project with Xpression: Designer. Our gfx department would like to create the project then export it for use in our Xpression: Studio system without retaining the ability to edit the project. In other words they want to lock the exported project so that it can't be mistakenly manipulated by the Xpression: Studio user.

Can Xpression: Designer Publish a project to the local HDD? Does Publishing require the Xpression: Server machine? Is there another method to export the Xpression project from Designer that would prevent it from being altered on the Xpression: Studio machine?

    Hi Anthony,

It's not possible lock out editing of the XPression project once it is loaded into a Studio/Designer software. Ross used to have a variation of the XPression Studio software called "Player" that only had the 'Sequencer' and no 'Layout'. So it wasn't possible to edit the project but you could still playback the graphics. This software edition has been discontinued but if you contact your Ross Sales rep they might be able to do something for you.

XPression Designer can export the project as an .xpp file to the local HDD. This .xpp file can be unpacked by any other XPression engine software. The only way to 'protect' the .xpp is to make it password protected. This won't stop users from editing the project once they open it (with the password).

    Hope that's all clear!
