    Hey everyone,

has anyone had any success with or found a way to child text or other objects to the the texture position animated within a quad?

Have you tried Visual Logic? The texture coordinates are available in Visual Logic and could be used to link their position to another text objects position. The texture coordinates are in the scale of 0 to 1, so you would probably need to multiply the texture position by the quad's width/height to convert the texture position to a pixel value.

@bford unfortunately it did not. I copied this exactly as it appeared with no change.

Can you send an example scene you tried this in?

Did you enable the active viewport button (blue diamond) in the viewport so the VL will be active?

Absolutely, how should I go about getting it to you? I did enable the active viewport.

I think the upload might be corrupted.. Can you confirm the file size is 21.1MB?

You didn't password protect it did you?

Indeed the file is near 22mb. I did password protect as I hastily assumed it would be sent over email. That being said it has been uploaded once more, denoted by "_CORRECT" You should not have any issues unpacking this project. It is simply one scene, we are trying to get the "Week #" text object to follow the "Week # BG" quad material's texture position. Likewise for "Week 1 Team" and "Week 1 @/VS" to follow the texture position of "Week 1 Poly Body" the same for the rest of the objects as well.

@bford Fantastic! It works perfectly! I still need to tinker with it to find out exactly how you applied this but this very small step is a big breakthrough for us. Thanks so much for all of your attention Brian!

Hey @bford, just using a bit of free time to tinker with this and how did you find the "fixed value to define the offset between objects?"

I think I just did it visually.. You can modify that offset by scrolling it's spinbox in realtime and observe the change in the viewport.

Got it to work! Thanks! Last question, If I were to animate the texture off the quad how could I get that text to animate off on the edge of that quad as well?

@bford is it possible to do this?

@bford Apologies! So right now I'm animating a texture off of a quad on the X-axis and using Visual Logic with your help I've been able to child that text to the texture position animation keyframes. However I need the text to animate off on the edge of the same quad so it appears as if the text is animating off on the same edge that the texture is animating off.

Sounds like you just need a mask to mask the text at that edge? To mask just the text might require some reorg of your scene tree to put the text and the new mask in their own layer (so that the mask only affects that one text object).

Exactly! Happy to reorganize it! How do I go about doing that?

@bford could I bother you for a walkthrough on how to make this masking effect you were talking about?
