  • 1.  Creating 3-point Loop L3rd using 2 different quicktimes

    Posted 04-11-2014 02:06
    Hi everyone,

    I have an upcoming show, and I've been given 2 L3rd quicktimes. 1=L3rd-Animate-In.mov 2=L3rd-Loop.mov

I converted both to AVI, Added both to my SceneDirector. But I'm having trouble creating a 3-point loop... Of course I need to play "Animate-In" then on the frame that ends I need to play (and loop) the L3rd-Loop.

Since my Loop Material is set to "Loop" I can't just put it in the scene director because it's looping as soon as you take the scene to air. So the two movie files don't match up when I reach the last frame of "Animate-In" because the Loop.mov has been playing since frame 0.

So I set both my .mov materials to "Play Once" then at the end, of my scene director, I put an event for the scene director to jump to the first frame number where the "loop.mov" should start (let's say frame 20). The scene frame marker jumps to frame 20, after it plays the first time, but does not play again and again from frame 20.

Before I tell the producer that "I can't do 3-point loops", I was hoping someone had encountered this issue before, and knows of the best way to accomplish this. To me the way I set it up with the event marker to handle the loop should work!

How do we create a three point loop with movie materials?

and, before I send the orginal quicktimes back to the prouder and ask for 1 quicktime built with 3-point loop, I want to make sure that I can accomplish this in xPression.

    Thanks Everyone.

    Hi Steve,

XPression can do 3-point loops without any problem.

But I'm not sure what your problem really is? Does it jump to frame 20 but doesn't play, or it doesn't jump to frame 20 at the end of the first play?

Anyway, it seems you are doing the correct thing, so you have to take the moviematerial and drag it onto one of the tracks of the Scene Director. Afterwards you need to put an eventmarker at the end of the loop clip on the Scene Director and make sure Jump To has been selected.

In the past I also had issues with the event sometimes not firing in the Scene Director when the Event was the last item on the track. But I found that if you put a Animation Controller on one of the tracks which has a longer duration than the total duration of the movie materials, that it works every time.

So to clarify, if your movies have a total duration of 100 frames, I would put an Animation Controller of 120 frames duration on another track. This was just to ensure that the Scene Director would play untill the end and it would fire the Event.

    Good luck!

Thanks Kenneth! Yes, making my animation controller duration longer than all my elements totally solved the issue.

    Thanks Again
