    Hi all,

As many of you most certainly know we have the option to create a Bezier curve in the Key Graph Editor. However, it is a bit too limited when trying to create a an ease effect comparable to that in After Effects. That being said I'm wondering if anyone has come across a script or some other feature I'm not aware of to be able to better manipulate the intensity or the "steepness" of individual bezier curves in the key graph editor.

    Anyone's input is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

I would try use the Lightwave curve system, which is also in the curve editor. It has parameters like Tension, Continuity and Bias.

The tension parameter is where you can create ease in. If you set the tension to 1, you got a perfect ease in.

You might want to google for the Lightwave graph editor, which in fact is much better than the After Effects graph editor. Try find some tutorials. It just works a bit different, but it offers 100% control to what objects do. The After Effects system can cause very strange quirks when you add key frames in between and it just doesn't behave right on many occassions. Sometimes keyframes split in two halves or you get no handles etc. You won't have that with the Lightwave / Xpression system.

@gvane is this Lightwave Keygraph Editor applicable or able to be integrated with ROSS XPression? If so, how?

It is the keygraph you see in Xpression. They have more or less copied the exact keygraph. So if you know how to operate the one in Lightwave, you know how to use it in Xpression too. Most important is the tension value which makes things ease in and out.

    Hunter,

Have you ever tried exporting your animation keyframes from after effects and using them in XPression?

Was not even aware of this feature. Is this present in v5.7? Or is this solely in v6? How faithful is the translation from After Effects to XPression in your experience? At any rate this is fantastic and I look forward to testing it out. Thank you for pointing it out!

    It's in 5.7,

I have no idea how faithful it will be to After Effects :)

It uses .mov (MOVE) files (not the quicktime video type!).

    Here is a sample:

    Sample MOVE File

It's basically just a text file with some deliminators. You can take a .txt file and rename it to .mov. I think you could just take the keyframe values in after effects and with some kind of translation/conversion could get them to work with XPression.

Might not be very easy though :)

Just wanted to check -- is this manual method still the only way to get camera/keyframe data from AfterEffects or other 3D package into Xpression?
