Is there a way using the scene director to play out one specific frame of an AVI video (but not the first frame) like it's a still image? Like say, frame 30 of a video.

You can create a second scene director ( "SceneDirector2" ) , insert your video clip material on it at the beginning of the timeline and go to frame 30 of the scene director.

if you want to control the "still" position of the video from the main scene director , you can add triggers on the main scene director to trigger :
- scene director : "SceneDirector2"
- play range N to N (where N is your frame number.)


If you don't use clip and scene director for your movie, you can also just set the video material properties to :
- Run Mode : loop / auto start
- Loop Points : Loop in Frame "30" / Loop out frame "30"
that trick seems to do the job.
