  • 1.  Datalinq Excel - glitch?

I've created a datalinq to an excel sheet. All the links seem to be working, but I've found that when I update the excel form, then send the scene to air in the sequencer, it displays the previous information for a split second before updating on air with the new information.

eg. The scene was created, linking to Excel Cell A1 which contained the name "Joe" in it. Update A1 with the name "Bob" and send the scene to air. "Joe" displays for a split second before updating with "Bob". This happens everytime you put the scene on/off air.

    Am I missing something?

    thanks

should probably also note its linking to an external computer, not local host.

    Hi Joey,

You will see this behavior if putting the scene on air from layout mode (double-clicking the thumbnail), but from the Sequencer it should update all the datalinqs before the scene goes online. Maybe it is related to having the excel sheet on a remote machine.

Are you running the datalinq server on the remote machine as well, or are you accessing the excel sheet over a shared drive?

I'm trying out what you describe is your workflow, but I don't see the flashing text like you describe.

Infact as soon as I save the excel sheet, I see the preview in the lower right corner of the sequencer update to show me the new values from the excel sheet. My ADODB datalinq is set to refresh every 2 seconds.

What version of XPression are you running?

Thanks for your help Brian. Your effors are appreciated!

We are running Xpression Studio SCE v2.70

I've set the datalinq up as a "Excel Datalinq Source" as the type. Browsed to find Excel file on the hard drive and set Open mode to "new excel instance". When in Sequnecer, the old data does appear in the preview window. When sent to air, it shows up on air for a split seocond, then updated live on air.

I've tried a workaround, saving the excel file on the Xpression itself, and setting up the datalinq with the local host. The old data is still appearing in the preview window, but it seems to have eliminated the issue where the update happens on air. New data is sent directly to air.

    thanks

Version 2.7 is very old. You should contact Ross Tech Support and see if you can upgrade. (Depends on whether you are in warranty or have a software maintenance agreement).

Version 5.0 added a ton of new datalinq features and functionality that would make it a lot easier for you to build a whole team roster etc. Prior to version 5, you won't see the preview window update to reflect the new data etc.

    Hi Joe,

xlsm files with macros enabled work (at least with excel 2007). They only don't show up in the open files window of datalinq server. Just add them by switching the open files filter to show all file types an proceed.
