I have some issues when trying to clean up my XPression files for final delivery, in that materials which are not actively assigned (but are passively assigned via VL) also get deleted. This is also a problem when merging scenes together, and in that instance, it appears to affect both materials and fonts (say I have string blocks assigning font weights). The latter scenario has me not combining projects until functionality implementation is set to begin, but the former leaves me too often with a deliverable XPP that is MUCH larger than it needs to be, owing to all the old stuff it's holding on to .

Another relevant issue comes when I try organizing materials into folders, XPression often crashes when I do this, most recently corrupting the entire scene file with message (FSO stream not found).

Just wondering what I am missing with respect to scene file optimizations, and any workarounds for these idiosyncrasies?

I believe some (but not all) of what you are looking for is in the XPression 8.2 beta versions.

A new build of XPression, version 8.2.0.4436:

    Changes in this build:

    • [implemented] rightclicking a font or material to search all scenes to show where that font or material is being used. Double clicking a search result will take you to that instance
    • [implemented] a dockable search window that can perform a string based search to find instances of fonts, materials, objects, scenes, or shader files that contain a particular string
    • [implemented] the search key on the custom XPression keyboard will now invoke the search window

A new build of XPression, version 8.2.0.4441:

    Changes in this build:

    • [improved] add the 'search for usage..' option to the material tab in the object inspector

Oh I like that very much. that will take care of some of the issues I have, and is for sure something I have been hoping for. Right now, we are running 7.1, but we have installers for both 8.0 and 8.2, though I am not immediately sure of the build Patrick sent us, but it was right after NAB. Just waiting to wrap up the current project before we 'change horses', as it were.

    Thanks, G!
