  • 1.  Keyframe files resulting in "invalid pointer" error and corrupting project

I have a project using several keyframe files in several scenes that works fine on my 6.5 build 3600 version of Xpression Designer. However, the project will not load into my client's 6.1 build 3437 version of Xpression Studio when the keyframe files are linked in the project. When they try to import my projects an invalid pointer error pops up, scenes will not load, Xpression locks up. If I delete all the keyframe files before packaging it up, the project imports fine. I was then able to re-link the keyframe files on their system, I thought all was well. Then 2 hours before a game they call and say it happened again and crashed their master file. Are Studio and Designer supposed to have the same version numbers and my client just need to update their software or are keyframe files known for causing problems like this? I'm not sure how to troubleshoot as I cannot reproduce the error on my machine.

    Thanks

There is a pretty big delta between 6.1 and 6.5:
    https://www.rossvideo.com/graphics-system/xpression/release-notes/version-6-2-release-notes/
    https://www.rossvideo.com/graphics-system/xpression/release-notes/version-6-5-release-notes/

If you use any of those features (and that's just major changes) in your 6.5 project and load it into a 6.1 engine it could cause issues. We can't guarantee backwards compatibility in XPression Project design. Loading a project created in a previous version into a newer version is perfectly fine though.

You should be creating XPression Projects on the same version as the playout engine is using to ensure stability and compatibly.
