  • 1.  IN/OUT & Transition Logic Option on Graphite

I tried searching the forum and such, but could not find a clear answer.

We're currently looking into getting a Graphite server for a low-end broadcast and big screen production.
Graphite is awesome, and Xpression Graphite fills our needs with just 1 channel out so far (hey, it got limitless layers so yeah, awesome).

What I wonder is that Transition Logic seems to be in the Prime upgrade for Xpression available to Graphite.
Wich then includes support for Custom 3D objects, API support, and last but not least Transition Logic.
Now, our graphics arent that awesome yet and they are mostly so simple that I can easilly control most of these myself.

Now here's the question. The "IN" and "OUT" part of a scene is controlled in the "Transition Logic" tab of the scene.
Does this mean I cannot set two animation controllers and have a take on/take off animation? Or does it ust limit my options when it comes to creating custom rules for it to run different animations controllers based on these rules?

Long story shrort, with Xpression Graphite, can I do an animation IN, hold it, and then OUT?

Transition Logic is not mentioned once in the specifications of the Graphics on the Graphite specc sheets.

Wich is why I start to wonder.

Graphite does not support Transition Logic.

    Refer to this chart:
    https://www.rossvideo.com/products-services/acquisition-production/cg-graphics-systems/xpression/editions/

You can still create graphics that have an IN animation; wait for a pause/resume; and then play an out animation. You just build the scene director differently than when you have transition logic.
You would build it all in one scene director with a pause between the IN and OUT.

Note the Prime upgrade for graphite does not support transition logic either. You need to go to the Studio upgrade for Graphite to get transition logic (and scripting).

Thanks, and OK!!! How would I go about and do this? Dont have that much experience with Xpression (yet), and this here would suit my needs completly.
As mentioned, I'm pretty sure I dont need all the fancy if/else/then rules of Transition Logic, but to have an in and out would be great!

EDIT: So, after some more testing and finding the "events" etc on the Animation Controller timeline thingy I found the pause event.
Now that works great, and as far as I can tell, calling the same Take ID again will run the animation from the pause again.
And it seems to me that Continuous Animations can still run even when it's on pause, so that can fool basically anyone and anything to still look cool! Perfect!

While I can definetly see the value of Transition logic and buttons like wait for out animations of other scenes etc to be really helpfull, it's not quite worth the Studio Upgrade at the moment! Can definetly look into it later though... As custom 3D objects would definetly also be on the list...

Thanks again for great support as allways from ROSS! :D

If you didn't figure it out yet, you can also right click on the track and add a "Take Offline" event to the end of the scene director. This will make sure to clear the scene from the output once it has animated itself off.

The other thing you can do if you want it to simply play the in animation in reverse, is on the Pause event you can tell it to reverse direction. Then on frame one, you can put a take offline event but set the properties such that it is only executed "from the right" so it only takes itself off when the scene director reverse itself back to the beginning.
