  • 1.  Request - Stop having positions of objects change when placed into a layer object

This is one of those things that bites me from time to time. If you've a stack of objects otherwise setup and dialed in, and then you realize you need a mask so you bring in a layer object put it in your hierarchy in the correct spot, and then grab your groups or objects and make them a child of that layer, the position of those elements will often change. Near as I can tell, the Layer inherits its XYZ from its parent, and then passes the value as absolute to its children as opposed to maintaining a relative relationship. The fact that this happens is only made worse by the fact that there is no undo function to address it when it happens, leaving one to either scramble to recall values, or revert to the last save point, potentially losing considerable work in the process.

Just throwing this one into the old suggestion box

    Cheers

I agree. I realize the hesitancy to change this because it changes the behavior everyone is accustomed to, but it could be a check box somewhere to disable it.

I just ran into a problem with this as well. At least make it to where objects can be positioned to either their parent's position or the object's global position relative to the frame size of the graphic.

In VizRT, when one moves an object to a different hierarchy, holding down ALT during the move results in relative values remaining the same, so things stay were they were prior to the move. Something like this, where the behavior could be adjusted with a modifier key would be ideal.
