  • 1.  How to Mask Away Text in Xpressions?

I figured out how to mask objects by equipping top level objects with subtraction blending modes; however, I am finding that it does not have an affect on text area quads. Any idea on how to create a mask for text in XPressions?

on the text, check the rendering tab. If it says text on top, switch it to normal. Hope this answers the question. Also are you using a layer object with a mask or are you using the crop box effect under the effects tab?

I am using a layer object, like a quad, with a subtraction color blending mode. Somehow I stumbled on that method, it it allows me to mask out other objects and reveal program in the control room.

If you are familiar with after effects, think of a layer object as a sub-comp. If you click on the Scene name in the object manager you can then go over to the render tab and select how the layers affect each other. You can then put your mask on the very lowest line in the layer object and it will then mask everything in the layer object that is above it. If you move it up one, it masks everything except the object that is below it. Remember that a layer object has no z position. You can't move it back or forward. Good Luck.

Extra note on the layerobject, while it has no Z position you can change the order that layerobjects are rendered.
