Is there a particular format or compression AVI's should be in? I have a project set up at 1080i 29.97 and a couple avi's in that format and they hitch like crazy for the first few seconds of their playback.

Ok, so looking at the files I have, they're in the 3-5gb size per file. In the XPression demo folder, the 1920x1080 video isn't any larger than 20mb or so. What rendering format are the demo files in?

The AVI files in the demo projects are using the XPression codec and the AVI wrapper. You should try running your AVI files through the XPression Video Coder and then importing them into XPression. You'll find that once the AVIs are run through the video coder they are much smaller.

You can also reference this information for XPression supported file formats.

    Supported File Formats:

    Image File Formats

    *.tga | *.tif | *.psd | *.bmp | *.jpg | *.gif | *.png

    Video Clip File Formats

AVI | MPEG | QuickTime (MOV) | Sequential Images (TGA)

(QuickTime must be installed on the XPression to use the MOV wrapper or files. (Requires restart))

    3D Model Formats

    *.3ds

    3D model generation programs:

    3DS Max (Autodesk)

    Bender

    Supported Audio File Formats:

    .WAV

    16bit

    48KHz

    2Ch Stereo

    Exporting from Design Programs:

    Adobe After Effects

Use XPression XPression codec. Default quality settings (80%).

    Avid Media Composer

    Wrapper:

    Export using the MOV wrapper.

    Format:

    No alpha: Motion JPEG (MJPEG)

QuickTime (V7) Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences > Advanced > Media Encoding > Enable encoding using legacy codecs

    With alpha : Animation Codec

The MOV file should then be run through the XPression Video Coder using the default settings to output an AVI file with the XPression (XPVC) format. Although the MOV files will play correctly in XPression, the files will operate more efficiently in XPression if run through the video coder.

    Final Cut Pro

It installs with any XPression engine.

    You can always find it under;

Start > All Programs > XPressionStudio/Prime/Designer/etc... > XPression Video Coder
