    Hi !

I have a basic quad on a scene, and I would like to have its shadow on my background.

So I checked "Receive shadow" on my background, I put a directionnal light and I checked "Cast shadow" on my quad and have a Z-Pos to 10 for it.

    But no shadow :(

Is that the good way to do ?

    Thank you !

    Hey Vincent.

No, the "Shadows" do not work.

One thing you can do is fake it. Add a second quad with a black blurry image to immediate a shadow.

    Ah... Ok....

It's a little bite more complicate, because my quad have a dynamic position, and my light moves...

    Thnx.

Casting and receiving shadows is a feature within Xpression since the very beginning, but I can not remember that it ever worked. Is there any information from Ross, if this feature will work in future. Otherwise it should be better to remove the checkboxes, as every customer asks for the functionality.

Has there been any update for this? If yes, any possibility of adding a shadow feature for point and spot lights as well?

I think the key phrase here is - " every customer asks for the functionality" So how did this end up? I need to add shadows to graphics please.

Using the drop shadow effect makes my quad disappear.

    All,

Drop shadows have been added to XPression version 5. If you are using XPression version 5 and the effects system it is a good idea to update to the most current releases. Currently 5.11 build 2550.

I added drop shadows to NBA referee head shots and was told shadows are a real memory hog. We did the trick of a generic headshot shadow on a second quad behind the head. It works great and doesn't overload xpression.
