  • 1.  XPression Error during install, inability to see mapped network drives...

I don't know if these 2 things are related or not.

I just got a new laptop for the purposes of running XPression when I'm offsite (core i9, 32GB, GTX1080). I literally took it ouf the box and setup Windows just yesterday. Today I mapped our network drive, and then installed XPression (7.1). During the install, I had several error messages pop up. I took an image of the first one, but I had probably 4 or 5 of these happen during the install. Despite this, the installation finished, and I was able to launch XPresssion with no issues, and set up my hardware prefs, etc. Then, when I went to open a project, XPression doesn't see the network drive I had mapped prior to install. The rest of the computer sees it, I can navigate to it from literally any other app no problem, but XPression is blind to it.

I honestly don't know if one thing has anything to do with the other, but I'm kind of stuck.

    Any ideas?

Update - I uninstalled and reinstalled XPression, this time error free, BUT it still cannot see the mapped network drive, despite every other program which can open a file being able to... what the what?

Update 2 - Found some super-secret settings in Windows which enabled XPression to see the network drive, crisis averted.

    Hey Willie,

Can you reveal these super-secret settings in Windows? I am working through this myself.

    Thanks

    Hi John,

I also had this problem after updating our Xpression to Win10

    The solution is this:

Because of the UAC, and the Shell runs with standard user permissions, it can't see mapped drives which were configured by your application running with admin rights. So, try the following workaround step by step:

    • Click Start, type regedit in the Start programs and files box, and then press ENTER.
    • Locate and then right-click the registry subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System.
    • Point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    • Type EnableLinkedConnections, and then press ENTER.
    • Right-click EnableLinkedConnections, and then click Modify.
    • In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    • Exit Registry Editor, and restart the computer.
