Is it possible to export video of a scene animating with alpha channel? if so, how?

Yes, put the scene into the sequencer. Right click on it and choose Export To -> Video.

Many video codecs do not support Alpha channel. Choose the XPression Codec. This will include the alpha.

You could also rightclick and choose Export To -> Images, and export it as a PNG or TGA sequence. This works well for loading into something like a video switcher for playback..

Only if premiere supports Video For Windows codecs and you install the codec onto that machine.. If not, the PNG Sequence should work.

I'm trying to export the ticker. Right now it's only exporting 4 seconds of video. Is it possible to export the whole ticker loop with alpha channel?

Is 4 seconds the duration of the take item in the sequencer?

If so, just make a dummy animation controller in the scene director of that template that is as long as the video you want to export.

Ex. If you're project is in 1080i 29.97 frames per second then a 120 frame animation controller would be 4 seconds long in the sequencer duration.

So if you want to export 20 seconds of ticker video make a dummy animation controller in the scene director of the template that is 600 frames.

Thanks. But now Premiere won't import the .AVI file. Can I export from Xpression in a codec that premier will recognize with alpha channel? will it export a .PNG sequence?

Don what codec did you export as? If you exported with the XPression video codec you will need to make sure that codec is installed on the system running Premiere.

here is a link to the codec intaller.

Yes you can export as .PNG sequence as well. Right click on your take item in the sequencer and select "export Take Item to", then select images. from this dialogue you can choose the frame range you want to export as well as the image format, TGA, PNG, etc.

I missed the Mac detail, forget the installer in that case it is windows only. Just use either a TGA or PNG sequence, Premier should import them as video.
