  • 1.  Strange artifacting with alpha channel

    Hey all,

I've just received an after effects file to be imported into xpression for a show. I've tried to render one or two compositions in a few different formats, it needs to hold a alpha channel.

On a standard playback within quicktime it looks completely fine, but as soon as I attempt to import it into xpression it seems to have some weird artifacting around the actual animation.

    How it should look:

    How it appears within xpression:

My usual workflow is to render it as a Quicktime MOV w/ PNG, then I will import it into Ross' Xpression Video Coder & export it through that (without changing anything within the alpha channel section). I then import it into Xpression as per usual. I've been doing this workflow for almost a year and a half so it's very odd that I'm having this issue!

If you could help then that'd be great.

Looks like the video may have been rendered as unshaped (non-premultiplied). After loading the video into a video shader material in XPression try changing the Source Mode from Shaped Video to Unshaped video.

Thanks, this seems to have done the job! Such an easy fix

For what it's worth, if you have the latest version of after effects, and it's on the same machine you have installed XPression, you can render straight to the XPression codec from AE without the extra step
