I was wondering if datalinq was the only way to pull in info from the web and other sources or if it can be accomplished with scripting as well. I've been working on programming lately and hoping to turn that knowledge toward Xpression soon. We don't have a datalinq license on our Xpression system.

Can you give us an example of what you'd like to accomplish? That might get people thinking a little more specifically.

If i could piggyback on this thread and give you an example Dan:

We work with GSIS (the official NFL stat system) and during a game at the stadium i will link to their computers that push me an xml file which I them pull into Xpression via Datalink. Gravy. Now, if the game is on the road I will stay home to broadcast our live Postgame show however the official GSIS stat guys are no longer here and i cannot get the stats from the xml. If I sign onto the GSIS website i can see the stats updating and I would love to datalink to those online stats and pull in the game stats, out of town scores, etc from there. Is that possible?

Here is the website to NFLGSIS http://www.nflgsis.com/ and if you PM me I'll get you the user and pass to further help this process.

    Thanks very much,

Try and route the URL of the xml into an RSS DataLinq. i.e., if the URL of the xml is www.nflgsis.com/week3.xml, then in your DataLinq Server manager, create a new RSS Linq with www.nflgsis.com/week3.xml as the URL. You even have a field to enter a user name and password if required.

We have multiple .pl's dumped into our DataLinq, so I know perl works, I know RSS works. I think RSS is just a general "catch-all" web import that might work.

Dan, thank you for getting back to me. I'm going to give the RSS a try later this week, next week at the latest.

I did obtain the user and password for you and I can send it your way if you email me your address. The last response I received from you was a noreply email address.

    Thanks very much,

The last message was a forum message. You can get to your messages by hovering over "My Account" at the top of the page, then clicking "Messages." Regardless, my email is djensen@wrex.com (not too hard to figure that one out from my user name and company...).

I was thinking about pulling info from an RSS feed as well, is this possible without datalinq through scripting? Such as a temperature, game score, etc...

    Hi Jesse,

You require Datalinq to pull in outside data sources. Scripting won't help you with that. With the API you could write your own external application to pull in those sources and push to XPression. However at that point you might as well just add the Datalinq option since you would have to add API support option.

    Hey All,

This is really just a shameless bump to see if anybody knows how to pull in a live xml feed from an online site into datalinq/xpression. I gave it all i got but i came away with only frustration.

    Thanks,

    Bryan,

You want to copy the URL and paste it into the address field when you create a new RSS datalinq source. If you have trouble post the URL you are trying to hit and we can take a look.

    Cheers
