After lurking through the forums over the past few weeks I've learned some neat tip and tricks to help with the station's new gfx pkg implementation. The graphics are actually being made with a VIZ-RT system by another station. All my materials are pre-rendered videos and place holders for images. I've got a few 3-point avis that animate in and loop. I've got that down. Text and placeholders animate in as well. Now I want the scene to check the next scene to see if it's a full screen as well. The idea is to have the old information dissolve away and the new information wipe on. Is this possible only through scripting or can visual logic handle this type of problem?

Actually, Transition Logic is what you're looking for!.

It can check what scenes are on air (and what layer they are on), check what text is on air, and perform transitions based on those factors and many many other as well.

You can see a video about it here:

This was added in XPression 6.0!

Sadly, I'm using 5.7. I've looked at the transition Logic tuts and wish I was using it because, yes, all my problems would be solved.

Edit: How difficult is the transition from 5.7 to 6.0? What about it will affect Overdrive, frame buffers, other output options?

Also, from my past experience, Transition Logic does not like Animation Controllers with Looping events in them, because the Transition Logic will still think it's being animating, and therefore never follow through with the transition. You'd have to separate the bit that you want to loop, like a looping background, and edit that into a video that loops forever and set it so in the setting of the video (auto start - free running). I've successfully created a few scenes with transition logic, like a lower third (it'll keep the same bg elements, just fades the text on and off) and an Over-The-Shoulder graphic (text and picture will fade on and off).

Also, @cbs7promo I think our station was previously on 5.7, but I don't recall. We're on 6.1 now, and the transition was pretty smooth on my end. And from what I'm told, the engineers didn't have to do much other than update the other software and plugins that came with it, but I think the update comes with everything you need as far as software goes, a one-stop update. Again, I'd ask your ROSS guy contact, but I believe it's fairly stress-free. Just have to set time aside one day while no one needs the software to update everything.

@pseitz Well that's good to know. I'd hate to upgrade to 6.0 and have to reconfigure my entire project because Transition Logic doesn't like 3-point loops? Anybody know of a work around?

Actually newer versions make 3 point loops even easier, as you can define the loop points directly in the video material rather than needing to use a scene director or animation controller. This works very well with the new transition logic feature.

Very pleased to do away with the multiple scene directors. Thanks.
