• 1.  Animation playing slow/weird audio problem.

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Long story short, I'm putting our stingers into Xpression, we have some 3D text flying in from off the side of the screen. Well that text flying in, on my designer software, takes 90 frames, about a second and a half. Well when we test it in our control room, it takes about three and a half, almost four seconds.

It appears as if the output that is going to air and slower then when it's in my designer software.

I don't think this is an issue with just the stinger scene that I built, I think this has been an issue since we implemented the Xpression graphics system, but we have never noticed it because we don't really have any animation where it is as prevalent.

This leads us to our audio problem. That same stinger scene, we have some audio. When we look at it in our control room, the audio sounds horribly distorted, almost as if it's being stretched and slowed down. Which would make sense since the scene itself is playing slower then it should be.

    Any ideas anyone?

PS. I would also like to mention that the project, is set to 59.94 FPS, which is what we broadcast.

    Thanks guys/girls!

It almost certainly is that the video clip and the project are not the same frame rate.

You say you are broadcasting 59.94 fps. Are you talking Frames per second or Fields per second?

Which specific video format are you in 720p/59.94 (59.94 frames per second) or 1080i 29.97 (59.94 fields per second)?

When you look at the Video Shader in the Material Editor, how many Frames Per Second does it say the clip is?

Chris we should really take a look at the project.

Have you contacted Ross Tech support on this?

It's hard to say what the issue is without seeing it. What could be happening is the assets(video/audio) in the project may be the wrong frame rate even though the project itself and the outputs on your XPressions are configured correctly.

@BrianFord I just talked to our Engineering Director and he confirmed that our video format is 720p/59.94 frames per second. In the stinger scene, I do have a video playing (our looping BG), and it says that it's 59.94 frames per second, but thats not the only thing thats experiencing the slowdown. We also have a 3D text layer that is coming in slow, as well as two quads that are coming in slow.

@AndrewSampson I haven't contacted Ross Tech support yet, but I will do that in a minute or two. Thank you.

PS. I would also like to mention that when I view this on my virtual output (on my computer with the designer software), it plays perfectly. The speed is exact, and the audio sounds crystal clear.

Is every scene with an animation slow, or just 1 particular scene?

Can you go to the Project Menu and Choose "Convert Project Mode". Make sure it says HD SDI 720p and 59.94 fps.

Then go to Edit->Hardware setup and make sure your Matrox says 720p/59.94.

I still think one of these two things must be different..

Also, while you're playing the scene, what does the Perf meter at the top of XPression display for a performance value? Is it over 100%?

@BrianFord Well, to quickly sum it up. When were we're getting ready to launch with the new system, I built our live bugs with a nice little on animation. When we tested everything, I noticed these bugs were animating in slow. Then we ran into a slight problem with graphics not transitioning off, so we decided to delete 90% of the animations. Because we delete those animations, you're not really able to see any kind of a slowdown. So I'm almost positive it's every scene that is slower then it should of be, but we really haven't had any animations where you could noticeably see it.

I also checked the Convert Project Mode and it did say HD SDI 720p 59.94 fps, then ran back to engineering to check the Matrox, here's where it gets a little 'weird', in my opinion... The Matrox was at 1080 29.97fps, but it had a little sub branch that said Output 720p 59.94. I was told by the Engineering guy to ignore the part where it said "1080 29.97fps" because it wasn't being output through that, and only pay attention to the 720p 59.94fps portion. So I'll have to do a little bit more testing in that regards...

Also, the Perf meter only goes up to 20-22% when the scene is playing.
