Does anyone have a simple workflow for importing song lyrics in a church application?

Are you looking for functionality beyond copy and pasting text into an XPression text object?

    Hello Dennis,

There are number of ways you can do this. If you have the lyrics saved as a .txt file you can do a file import from the sequencer in XPression. This will allow you to select and insert text into a take item without typing or minimizing to do a copy paste. When in sequence you can select the "file" option in the template data tab which will allow you to browse for the file and perform the import.

Alternatively you can use datalinq but it would require you having a license for that software feature. With datalinq you can link to text, xml, excel spreadsheets, and more. These could then be used to populate your song lyrics.

If you could describe what you are trying to achieve we may be able to give you better guidance.

    Cheers,

I am not the user. I am the installing dealer. The client just finished their training session and said that getting the lyrics into their old Inscriber system was much easier. I had assumed that it was just a matter of creating a template and using "copy/paste" to get the text into it. We just need a little hand holding until they get comfortable.

    copy paste will work too.

Not sure what was described in their training, if you want to put the customer directly in contact with someone at Ross feel free to provide my email address asampson@rossvideo.com.

I am one of the XPression trainers at Ross and would be happy to provide some guidance.

You can also easily format your Text document and "import text to template"

Simply format your scene how you want with the font style, and placement desired. Then in sequencer find the Scene in Scene Manager and right click and select the option "import Text to Template"

Format your text document with using a blank return between lines to tell Xpression to go find another text field, and if there is none, it will automatically use another scene.

    Ex:

All the text for Scene 1 using 1 text fields

All the text for scene 2 using 1 text field

    but with 2 lines

More text for Scene 3 and this can go on for a long time

Then if You have Xpression v4 or higher you save each song as it's own project and open the projects you need for band sets.

This is a great way to quickly import Song lyrics. I have done song lyrics in Inscriber and I think Xpression is much faster especially with the import text feature and multi-project support.
