  • 1.  Hardware issues after Windows 10 to 7 Downgrade

I recently downgraded from Windows 10, under which I was running XPression Designer 7, to Window 7 (after experiencing too many headaches with Win10). I noticed as soon as I opened Designer, after my fresh install of Win 7, that I was presented with 2 error windows during the Designer splash screen. The first error message reads "Error initializing 3D subsystem (Failure: D3DERR_NOTAVAILABILE), and the second error message reads "Warning, shader model 0 detected, XPression will try to run in a scaled down render mode." The program loads, but does appear to not display materials properly.

I did search the forums and found one other message that brought up the D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE error, and pointed to choosing a different hardware renderer in software preferences. I've cycled through each of the options under that menu location, but nothing had changed as a result. My system has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080ti installed in it, the same card I had been using under Win 10. Is there anything else I might have overlooked in my configuration of Designer? Thanks in advance!

Did you install the correct drivers for your graphics card? They are usually Windows version dependent (so a driver for Windows 10 won't necessarily work properly on Windows 7). Try running the DirectX Diagnostics tool to find out if there's a problem with Direct 3D (which is what the error is referring to). To run the tool, open the Start menu, type "dxdiag" (without quote marks) and press enter.

As far as I can tell, the NVidia drivers for my GeForce 1080Ti are up to date. I manage my video drivers using the NVidia GeForce Experience panel, which is what I was using under Win 10 as well. In my efforts to troubleshoot this, I've also uninstalled current drivers and installed NVidia drivers from a few iterations ago, to identify if the issue was update specific. I did run dxdiag, and there were no errors through that scan. I also ran the 64-bit scan in dxdiag, which produced the same results, no errors. Has anyone else experienced this issue under the NVidia drivers? Could I be missing a Win 7 component? Any thoughts?

Do you actually see the NVIDIA card as a selectable option in the XPression hardware renderer dropdown?

I do see the NVidia card as an option - in fact, I see 2 NVidia options - See attached...I have tried choosing all of the options available and restarting, but always left with the same error messages upon start-up of XPression Designer 7

Anyone out there with experience on this error, or a resolution? Last call before I open a ticket. Any help would be appreciated. :)
