    Hi
When creating a material as an alpha mask, and using a gradient to generate a soft edge alpha, how is the alpha generated? None of the settings for the gradient affect the alpha.
The alpha I am getting looks like the edge of a gaussian blur, and I need to rotate the texture co-ords of the gradient by -45 degress in order for the alpha to line up horizontally.
I have a previously generated material done on a course that is perfect, but I can't replicate it!

    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Simon

You'll need to create the mask with alpha in another application (I typically use After Effects, but Photoshop will work to), and bring it in. When you right click in the material manager, select New -> Mask -> Image, and bring your mask in as a texture. I would be cool if we could build a grad in a material in XPression for a mask like you are trying to do, but it is not at this point in time possible. Alphas have to be texture driven.
