I have an Xpression project linked to an Excel spreadsheet using Datalinq. Everything is locally on the same Xpression: Design machine. The problem is, that every time I close the Xpression project, I have to refresh the Live Update checkbox for every single item that is linked.

Having an 8x8 table with each cell separately linked to a respective cell in the spreadsheet means I have to refresh 64 Datalinq items every time I open Xpression.

By refresh I literally mean, clicking on the text object, going to the Data Source tab, clicking Set, unchecking Live Update, re-checking Live Update, then hitting OK. After this process the link works indefinitely until Xpression is closed. Then I have to do the whole process over again.

As mentioned, the Live Update checkbox is still checked when I view each Data Source Datalinq, it just won't actually alter the information properly until I uncheck and re-check it. Like a rudimentary refresh. Obviously this is far from ideal. Does anyone else know a possible solution/workaround.

Sounds like the setting isn't being saved.. I would suggest contacting Tech Support and providing them the project to investigate. If you create a new project/scene can you edit the Live Update checkbox and save it? (in other words is the problem of the live update not being saved isolated to your current project?)

I have tried creating several new projects and it's always the same result.

When you open the project the scenes will not be updating properly. When investigating, the Live Update checkbox is in fact checked properly. Yet it seems to be a false reading as it clearly isn't updating. The only solution is to uncheck the Live Update box and then recheck it. Then hit Ok. It's exceedingly simple, yet appears to be a broken function. Am I correct in understanding that no one else is suffering from this issue?

Here is a short video that details the issue I'm having exactly. It's rather bizarre. I actually discovered that I don't even need to uncheck the Live Update box. I simply have to select a Text Object, click on the Data Source tab, click Set, then click Ok. This initializes the datalinq connection for that specific text object again until Xpression is closed. Then I have to do it all over again.

Hi Anthony,

I notice you didn't actually put the scene online in your video; can you drop the scene into the sequencer and put it online? The datalinqs in layout mode typically don't update in realtime, but a scene that is online should. When you go into the datalinq properties and hit Set it will go and get the latest value from the excel sheet so that updates.. I will play around with this a bit on Monday to duplicate your behavior; but it would be good for you to try the sequencer and let us know that that is or isn't working correctly.

I gave it a try myself; and as soon as you put the scene online the values should stay live updating until the scene goes off air. (It doesn't do live updates while active only in the layout editor).
