I have a crawl and I am putting a Mask on the parent scene, with the children scene pulling text from an XML. I cannot make the children adhere to the Mask that is on the parent scene....any suggestions? How do I mask a crawl? Maybe I am doing this completely wrong....

Is the text in your crawling scene set to "Normal" rendering priortity, instead of "text on top"?

Is the text set to a higher Z value than the bar?

When I set the text to Normal it runs behind the bar that I have on my parent scene

Yes the text is set, in the first child scene, to 1....the bar on the parent scene is set to -1, and the Mask is also set to -1

The bar, and a Left Mask and a Right Mask are in a layer object on the parent scene, the children scenes are text only

If the masks are in a layer group, then they won't affect anything outside of the layer at all (like the text in the children scenes). I think you need to remove the layers..

    Try this: https://ross.brickftp.com/f/fb845d0a0

and if you don't want the background masked, only the text; try this sample:

I put the background in a layer, and used manual render sorting to tweak the render order.

Thank you Brian, and Thank you Chris....I appreciate the help. I had to make the Mask layers at 100+ on the Z axis

    Hello,
Could you please reactivate the sample links? They have expired.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
I do have the same problem and downloaded the examples.
I need the background not to be keyed. The example works fine but if I built exactly the same with all the same settings it does not work. As soon as I create a SceneGroup in my system the Layer - does ignore the Manual settings of its order - the Layer is always on top of everthing including text - even when I set text on top true.
I also just copied all the elements from the example scene to be shure then in my SceneGroup and checked every detail again - nope. I work on system 6.5 but have the same with 6.2.

Funilly if I stay in that SceneGroup that has been created from somebody else and create a new Layer - new Masks and New Text - all new set myself it works.

    Solved it :-)
For the Scene itself - In the Objekt Manager first one the Scene Group itself has to be also in the Rendering / Depth Sorting to be on Manual not only the Layer. By default that is set to Automatic.

    Hi,
Despite i have read all the thread I still can't understand and get it achieved. My gradient mask is applied as a non-gradient mask for some reason. Can anyone list required conditions to make it working.
The simple case: two objects in a SceneGroup - a quad as a background and a gradient mask, a text object is in a child scene. What are the conditions to make text be masked while the quad is to avoid masking?
    Say,
    1. SceneGroup1 is set to render manually
    2. The mask is to seat higher in Object Manager
    3. The quad is to be a child of a LayerObject
    4. The text is set to render as Normal
    ....
    What else?

    Many thanks,
    "‹Maxim
