may seem like a silly question, I work in corporate and deal with a lot of powerpoint presentations. i tend to import these into Xpression as images. I have my template made, and i need to import roughly 100 slides to individual scenes. is there a mass import for this or do i have to link that material (the image slide) to each scene one at a time?

You don't need to create 100 scenes to do this. You can create one scene with a published quad and from the sequencer create 100 take items each one pointing to a different image.
You will still need to link each one individually but it will probably be much faster as you don't need to create a scene, add a quad, create the material, etc..
From the sequencer you will have an Images tab where you can just click and choose the image you want assigned to that take item.

To answer your original question though; you can import multiple images at once by selecting them in windows explorer and drag/drop the whole set of them onto the material manager and it will automatically create a new material for each image file you dropped.

sorry if my question was confusing, yes i knew i didn't need to create 100 scenes. just 1 scene and then 100 take items. but there is no way to mass link the materials to multiple take items?

    You can.

Go to the Sequence (F4) and select the default Take Item where you're Powerpoint Template is in. Right click on it and select Export Take Item To > XML or TXT.

If you open this saved file you can modify / copy paste you're info for the images you want to show.

If you done that go back in the Sequence (F4) right click on a take item again and follow Take Item List > Import From > XML or TXT

And within the group xpression automatically fill all the take items with the information you put in the file
