Cannot hear audio

  • 1.  Cannot hear audio

    First time to need to use Audio in an XPression scene. I have it all imported and on audio tracks for each scene that needs it. I have set my audio in the Audio Devices, Virtual Output and Preview and Monitor to be all the same. Yet, the audio is not present when I play any scene that has it, in either layout or sequencer.

    What am I missing?

    (I can hear the audio fine if I open it in another application, and the audio is 48/16 stereo, in case the question comes up)

    Try restarting XPression. I've found changing the audio settings will take effect after a restart.

    A very solid idea... but alas it didn't do it for me

    Did you check on an embedded output?
    I've also had issues in the past trying to get audio out of the AES-outputs, but Embedded for me it always works. Then leave it up to the audio engineer to get it on air...

    Can you post some pictures of your configuration? What's the name of the audio device you are trying to use?

    Here is the setup as I have it - I was simply trying to listen through Headphones plugged into the Headphone Jack in the PC Tower. The 'Realtek' device you see here is what the system says I am using when listening through the headphones, and other audio files outside of XPression do work.

    You've got the *Digital* output selected. I have a Realtek audio at home (who doesn't?) and digital is specifically the optical out, which I use. You might need to re-add you audio device and use a different output (a.k.a. analog or headphone, etc.)

    Which is curious as I don't have an optical out on this machine, and the only options available to select were Realtek and my displays...

    If you have the Realtek HD Audio manager installed, the settings page (gear icon in top right) might have some options to play with (i.e. mute rear output when front headphone plugged in). If not, or if that doesn't fix it, you might want to re-install the audio drivers. It's weird it's only showing you digital when you only have analog outs.

    We have an XPression Quad with the inputs as follows. Oh, I love how the forum auto-rotates an already correct image... :{

    Edit: I was confusing 'digital' with 'optical' - you're correct they're not the same thing, but it's really 'speakers' you want that's not showing up.

    In case you haven't already tried this, you have to map each output to an audio device in Inputs/Outputs. This one just bit me!

    I've noticed that I haven't been hearing any audio in Designer since 8.5 was released. Maybe a call to tech support is in order.

    @plantassassin there was a bug in the 64bit version of 8.5 that prevent the directsound audio device from working. It was fixed in build 8.5-4572, so contact tech support and get upgraded to the latest 8.5 if this sounds like your issue. If you are running the 32bit version of 8.5 then this is probably not your issue.
