Xpression Clips Setup

    Hey,

we currently try to setup Xpression Studio with the Clips option.
The INcoder stays "disconnected" so we are not able to convert videos in to the file format.
Another issue is the clip store manager doesn't show example videos in the software itself, even if they are in the folder it's "watching"
We are running the media control gateway, it says all "connected".
Any solutions here? Or a step by step manual? We already watched the "Xpression U" Videos.

    Thank you!

If the INcoder manager says disconnected, the the INcoder server is probably not running. Could be because the dongle is not detected. (the INcoder log in its ProgramFilesX86 folder would show this info).

The clipstore does not have a watchfolder. Only the INcoder has watchfolders and transfers clips into the clipstore database when they are transcoded into XPression codec.

I suggest you contact Ross Tech Support to assist you with the configuration.

    Hey bford,
we found a solution. It seems like, we are not licensed for the INcoder...What Ross suggested is, that we use the Recorder in Xpression Studio, to send Videofiles to the Clip Store.
That basically works, but as we deleted the videos from the harddrive, they remained in the clip store as black thumbnail.
Is there a possibility to delete them completely ? Otherwise we would have tons of damaged video links and the operator will have a good trouble to seperate them from actually working videos.

    Thank you!
    Andy

Yes you need to delete them using the Clipstore Manager application. You should never just delete the files on disk in the storage folder or the database will be out of sync with the disk files. Always delete using the Clip store Manager and it will delete the file on disk for you .

    Hi Andreas,
As mentioned in the email to Marc, do not modify, add or delete anything in the Clip Store database or storage folders. If you want to delete a clip from the Clip Store open the Clip Store Manager, login (admin/admin) and you can delete clips from here.
Clips can only be deleted from the Clip Store Manager. We intentionally do not allow clips to be deleted from the Clip Browser in the XPression Studio/Clips applications.

    Hey Guys,

thank you for the fast replies. Due to the workflow without the incoder we ignored/forgot the clip store manager. Works fine now and makes sense to me.
Since we use the Recorder to import video files into the clip store, we don't see a chance to setup a watchfolder for the clipstore without using the Incoder, so the operator needs to import them manually. Is that correct or did i miss something here aswell?

That is correct. The INcoder product is what provides an automated workflow for transcoding, and ingesting clips based on watchfolders. It also provides email notifications upon ingest of new clips and can automatically parse and set metadata (e.g. looping flags, recall ID's etc) based on tags placed in the filename or watchfolder configuration.

Without the INcoder you must manually ingest clips into the clipstore.

    Hey bford,

your tips worked though. Thank you for your help!
    Facing another issue now.
Playing Videos works fine, we figured out that the Audio layer of the videos contains a sporadic "click" noise.
We have tried different Videos and Decklink Cards , embedded and XLR Out aswell.
    The files themselfs are fine.

Decreasing the sample rate from 48k to 44.1k solves the "click" noise but changes play speed and the pitch goes deeper.

    Any suggestions from your site?

    Thank you!

If the click is constant it's almost always because the wrong frame rate was chosen in the XPression Video Coder.

    thx garner,
we rendered the video with the adobe media encoder in xpression codec.
Our whole workflow is in 59,94 progressive. Therefore we rendered the video in 59,94p.
I tried to render a file in 29,97, the audio was clean now, but obviously the video ist twice as fast now :)
Just to make sure i dont HAVE TO play my video in 29,97, do i?

    Edit:
The Operators just informed me that the 29,97 file sounds bad now, too.
Yesterday we checked the rendered files without Xpression to make sure it isnt the Decklink Card itself and it sounded well.
We are using Xpression Studio 6.2 build 3526

I think you should contact techsupport@rossvideo.com to work with someone to troubleshoot and fix this. We will definitely need a copy of the files you are using. We may also need the raw content before it's trans coded.

And no, your video framerate should match the output format.

Hey Garner, apparently our operators have the same issue now with gfx + audiofiles. So it becomes a major issue for us, any updates on this topic?
