Yes, but they consume a lot more performance than converting them to XPression codec AVI's in the video coder.

If you really need to play back tga/png sequences you just add them to a Video Material like you would an AVI.

Brian, I have a number of animated PNG files I'd like to use as 7-day weather board graphics. Each is a single animated PNG consisting of several images. I tried making AVI videos from them in the video coder, but they didn't turn into useable AVIs.

They were created using a method outlined here: http://www.mikeafford.com/blog/2011/10/seamless-looping-weather-symbol-animation-using-trapcode-particular-jquery-and-spritely/

Any ideas on whether we can somehow use these in xPression?

    Thanks,

    Randy

During an experiment to compare Xpression codec AVIs to a .PNG sequence, I found that my alpha channel didn't handle feathered edges correctly. If AVIs are most efficient, perhaps this is unimportant, but is there a solution?

    Randy,

You would need to chop those up into individual PNG's then you could convert them using the video coder.

Each PNG needs to be consecutively numbered, e.g. Image0001.png, Image0002.png etc..

James, it was probably an issue with Straight versus Premultiplied Alpha's. (Also known as Unshaped or Shaped). There is a setting in the video material to switch between the two modes. If you have it is not set to match the graphic then you will see issues with feathered edges..

Brian, I did the conversion with the video coder, at both 25 fps and 29.97 fps, and now have AVIs that play fine in various media players. But when I import them into Materials Manager, they appear in the manager sort of transparent/whited-out, and do not appear on the actual scene as visible, even though they are the top layer. Are there special coder settings I need to use for small (16 frame) PNG sequence conversions? Thank you.

OK, I fixed it, by changing the material's alpha blending>blend mode to Addition.
