  • 1.  Exporting AVIs in version 6.0

    Hello Everyone,

We are trying to export a scene as an .avi file and with version 6.0 we are getting a lot more options than we used to before. I tried saving it with the Xpression codec option but when our editors try to import it to premier and after effects it's just white and/or black, there's no elements in the file. We tried the other settings but nothing seems to be working. Any ideas? When we look at the file in windows media player everything seems to be saving correctly.

    Thanks for the help.

Your editors are on mac ? PC ?

If PC, do they have the Xpr codec installed ?

It is PC and they do not have the codec installed. Do they have to install it? Is this because of the new software?

Is there a way to do it without having to install anything?

It would not be because of new software, a PC would always have needed the XPression codec to playback or use XPression codec AVI files.

You can download the XPression codec here:

    Codec

It requires a reboot for Premier or AE to see it.

Do you know the format and codec you used to export for XPression? Do you have files you exported in the past? You could check them and see what format and codec they are.

Hey Mildred, I ran into this same problem... Where the editors were on macs... I eventually used this workflow:

I ended up exporting my graphics using the Xpression AVI..

Then I would use Adobe Video Encoder to batch convert all the XPression AVI into Quicktime Animations. I know it's an additional step in the workflow, but it worked really well for me & the editors. You may want to ask your editors if they know of a cheap Video Conversion Program that you can use; if you don't have access to Adobe Video Encoder.
