  • 1.  Recording Clips into xPression via Video Input

Hello All, I hope this isn't a "DUH" question. Recently I worked a job where the director wanted me to record an animated background into XPression; which they would feed me from playback. I thought about it and realized I have no idea if XPression can even do that? Fortunately I got the animated back via a flash drive...

I know the INPUT GRABBER in XPression can grab stills via the connected input; but the INPUT GRABBER doesn't seem to have a "video" option, nor does the XPression Video Coder Is there a way to record moving video into XPression, via the video input? I know Avid Deko had that option with the ability to edit IN and OUT points. In the future before I tell my director/producer that XPression CAN'T DO THAT I want to make sure...

Is there a way to record video directly into XPression via the video input? Has anyone accomplished this?

    Thanks Guys

    S.

    Hi Steve,

It is not possible to record video from within XPression. However most videoboards come with their own set of tools (I know the Decklink- and AJA-boards do, I assume Matrox has its tools as well). With those tools you can record video. In XPression you can than use that video as material. Mind you: I have never tried this, but this should work. A colleague of mine recently used the 3rd party software VirtualDub (you can download this from the web and it is free of charge) to record video and he did actually used that video as material in XPression.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Gerard

Thanks for the prompt reply Gerard... After I made the post I was thinking a 3rd party program may be the solution... Thanks for the program suggestions; I'll check them out. It would be cool if a video recorder could be built into the xPression Video Coder. That way there would be no doubt that xPression will play it back.

    Thanks Again Gerard

XPression is able to record video.

    - Edit > Hardware Setup > Add > AVI Recorder (With SCE systems you need to remove the mainboard to add this framebuffer)

    - Create live source material and apply it to an object

    - Put the Scene with the live source object onto the AVI Recorder Framebuffer (just like you would any other framebuffer)

    - The AVI recorder interface will open up and present you with format options and other settings

Garner, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I read about the AVI RECORDER in the help file but assumed it was just for exporting scenes. I never thought of making a scene with the live input assigned to a material so I can render it. I can't wait to try it.

    Thanks

    Again
