So, imagine off in space somewhere I create a little 3D scene with some cubes and spheres; it's off the normal viewing area so you don't see it. I create a new perspective camera to view just that little scene. In template mode, I can tell the viewport to use that camera and I can see my scene and it's all good. Then I switch back to the default camera, create a quad, and create a material that uses the renderview of that new perspective camera I created, and map that material to the quad. I cannot see anything.
I can create a new scene within the same project, create a quad and map the same material (because it's shared in the project) to that quad - and I can see the camera's view of those objects mapped onto a quad.
So it doesn't work when I try to make a self contained scene to do this, it only works if the renderview selects a different scene. It would be cool to be able to accomplish everything in one scene.
