  • 1.  Exporting AVI files from Xpression to After Effects

    Posted 09-02-2014 20:49
My first post disappeared, so hopefully this isn't a double post.

Is it possible using the AVI exporter to export files for use in After Effects?

What is the proper codec to use that will support Alpha Channels?

Microsoft RLE exports nothing. Matrox Uncompressed HD, MPEG 2 HD + Alpha, XPression Video Codec 4.0 won't work in After Effects.

    Thanks for any help,

    Michelle

Ditto to Vincent. Using XPN 5.9 build 3101 on a PC, and it works.

Is designer/studio installed on the same computer as AE or are just the codecs installed?

After Effects is on Mac systems. The only Windows system we have is the Xpression.

Have you tried exporting as png or tga sequences. That should most definitely work in after effects no matter what platform.

    -right click scene

-export take item to images>png sequence (be sure to set the frame end time)

    -open quicktime 7

-file>open image sequence>navigate to folder with .png sequence and select first file (will convert png sequence to video with alpha channel)

-save as .mov that will can be imported into adobe premier/after effects on mac

    Thanks so much Don!

    That worked perfectly.

Don't need to go through quicktime to convert to .mov After Effects can import the png image sequence.
