I have been trying to find a way to make audio fade out. We have some scenes with an audio track and if we dump out early the audio just cuts. I tried scripting a second scene which adds keyframes to lower the audio level to 0, but that doesn't affect the scene playing online. It just updates the template with those keyframes.

Is there a way to do this in Xpression?

Do you use the sequencer ?

If yes, the scene on air is a copy of your template. So you need to get your framebuffer, then get your scene on layer X, and after play with your KF...
