hi all, i apologize for being back again....and yes, i am a newbie. i have been trying to get this thing to work for over 1 week now and i'm no closer.

i am trying to make simple lower third, that animates in and out. (i managed to get that) but also has a few scene directors, header_in and header_out as well as bottom_text_in and bottom_text_out....

i am using 3 simple Transition Logic rules (in this order)

    1. untitled rule, play L3D in and out on IN/OUT tab

    2. for header_in and out change, i am using text compare if header_text (the name of my text object) is different, then B2B play header_in and header_out

    3. for bottom_text_in and out change, i am using text compare, if header_text is the same, then B2B play bottom_text_in and bottom_text_out.

the bottom text change seems to work, even though some reason the masking doesn't work in virutal output mode.

the header_in and _out animation is a simple position keyframe and it does work on the change, but the bottom text snaps on and off for some reason, why can't the text be onscreen when the header_in and _out animation occurs?

i am not asking for anything difficult....if this text is the same, play this....if this text is different, play this....but for some reason it totally messing up the scene directors i'm asking it to play

please, please, please, any help is appreciated.....

are there other ways to build lower thirds, bec. i'm having a horrible time with Tran. Logic....

sorry for my sour attitude, i'm frustrated.

i've attached a project file as well as a sample videoclip....

    thanks

    To fix it:
In your "header_slate IN" animation controller, delete the keyframes you set on the "red_slate" object.
Also, on the "header text change" rule, check the checkbox to "render incoming scene on top".

    Explanation:

On outgoing scenes, because the checkbox for "render animated objects only" is clicked, and there are no keyframes set on the lower text it will not be rendered, but you do have keyframes set on the red_slate (which should not be there) so you are ending up with a red box only. By removing the keyframe from red_slate it won't render either, and you will only see the text from the new incoming scene now.

Also because you want the older header to slide down behind the red slate for the new incoming scene, you need to click the checkbox to render the incoming scene on top.

bford, thank again for your help....one more question, why is the bottom text snapping on when there is a header_in change? ideally the bottom text says 'as is' and is not effected

The bottom text will always be updated to whatever text is in published template data in the sequencer. So if you want the bottom text to stay the same, both items in the sequencer need to have the same text set for the bottom lines. Ideally, you should have another rule that handles the case of both the header and bottom lines being different, and have another set of scene directors that handles the animation for both of them changing. This new scene director can simply include the same animation controllers you already built (see the original sample I sent you last week, as that is what I did in it).
