  • 1.  XPression - Preview PNGs Reading Strangely

    Posted 05-13-2015 13:14
    Hi all,

Another question for the forum: we seem to have a few select PNGs acting rather strangely in our preview pane in sequence within XPression. I'd like to point out that this is sporadic and we're not entirely sure how to pinpoint why this is happening. We are running XPression off of a Parallels Virtual Machine, if that may have anything to do with it. But it only seems to be a select few PNGs and usually when we open up the XPression project on our actual ROSS XPression machines the PNGs behave and display as normal. Attached is a screenshot of what we are experiencing. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

(We are running off of v5.7 Build 3088)

    Thanks!

This is the location of the screenshot to illustrate the issue. Apologies.

    Hunter,

The XPression engine is not supported in a Virtual Machine/Parallels configuration. We do not know what issues can arise from using the engine in this configuration.

Out of curiosity, what is listed as your hardware renderer (Studio > Edit > Preferences > Hardware Renderer > Adpater) on your VM XPression?

    It is set to None.

There is the option to set it to "Parallels Display Adapter (WDDM) (#0)" and "Software Emulation Mode (use for debug purposes only).

Setting it to the Parallels Display Adapter might help, but it also might not. XPression requires a GPU to render accurately, and VMs will restrict access to the GPU.

I use XPression on Macbook Pro running Windows with Bootcamp and it works perfectly.. Parallels however is quite a different story and does not work well.

We initially had Windows on Bootcamp but our workflow is very much Mac so it seemed best to have both functioning at the same time. This issue is relatively minor, hopefully in the future there will be more support on a VM. Thank you for your input.
