  • 1.  Slate showing on first frame of live output (i.e. unusable)

We're unable to use the slate feature of the clip server, as the slate itself shows up on the first frame of video in our live output. I've played back the PGM recording of our show when using slate, and there's consistently a 1 frame slate showing up.

We're using a quad channel XPression Studio with the 8 SDI outputs configured as three fill+key channels and two channels fill-only to be the two video/server channels, routed to our Acuity with dedicated inputs for video channels 1 & 2. There's no key output for video, so the comments in the XPression U tutorial on this feature that say 'the slate doesn't get keyed' doesn't seem to apply.

We are using the preview window so we can play videos back-to-back with the auto-roll feature, and I know using slate turns off the preview window, so that might be another issue I have to work around, but I really wish I could use the slate. Any suggestions? I don't want to have to get fancy with macros to run videos that delay frames, as we have volunteers run our board, and transitioning to a video crosspoint is easy; setting up macros for each video player is more complex just to enable a feature that doesn't seem to work as indicated.

    Thanks,
    Bryan

Try setting the pre-roll delay on the device setups in the Acuity to 1 frame. That will cause the Acuity to wait one frame after triggering the server before switching to it.

The slate should show up only on the Fill Channel, but it should not be on the Key channel. In order to have this not appear when key'd by a switcher, it would require the switcher to use non-additive keying, also know as "unshaped keying" or non-premultiplied. If you are using Fill Only outputs and not using a key channel, and taking the source directly on a background bus of the switcher there is no way to prevent the slate from being shown in the video; other than delaying the cut as Hopejr has described.
