  • 1.  Discrepancies between layout and sequencer playout

alrighty then... I am having some fairly significant issues wherein things look one way in the layout mode, but the sequencer playout is different. It has to do entirely with positioning.. things arre lined up and dialed in nice and tight in the layout, but when I play them out of the sequencer, or export an image sequence, I see gaps, its as if things aren't keeping up if that makes any sense.

The thing about this is, since I can't see the problem in the layout mode, I can't really fix it, and I am at a complete loss.. perf meter never goes above 14-15%. I have a fair amont of visual logic in some of these scenes, is there some sort of lag there? I have for instance 1 element keyframed, and 4 other elements linked to it in VL, so I don't have to juggle 5 tracks worth of animation when it comes to making changes and stuff... could that be the problem? I am well and truly at my wits end....

The sequencer will position the main scene director to frame 0, and any other scene directors that have a "default marker" on them will get positioned to that frame. When viewing it in layout, nothing gets repositioned as you are free to move/scrub any scene director to any position you want.

If you cant figure it out, send me a link to the scene in a private message if you like, and when I have a few spare minutes I'll see if I can track down what the cause is, and point you in the right direction.

Hmm. I'm actually only using one scene director in each scene. Mulitiple animation controllers of course, but only the one director...

@WillieFrazier were you ever able to figure out your problem? I see the same thing happening in my scene when I use VL to drive the position of an object using another object's animated X Position.

@froeman Yes. The issue revolves around the order in which XPression calculates things. By default, it calculates VL, then advances the scene directors. They implemented a new feature in VL on the back of this very conversation which is a little checkbox on the lower left of the VL window. Checking this box will change that order of execution, forcing XPression to advance the scene director and then checking logic. If you don't see that check box, then you likely have an older version of XPression. Great reason to upgrade, as I find the ability to drive animations with VL indespensable

Yeah, the tricky bit is when the timing needs to match, but the values don't, but I suppose one could adjust the pivot point to remedy that...
